Getting started
Importing and exporting your data
Bring a plan over from another planning tool's export, import holdings and balances from a spreadsheet, and download everything you've entered.
Your data is yours. You can download it at any time, and you can bring in data from files you already have. Files you import are read on your device.
Export your plan
In Settings, under Your data:
- Download this plan saves the current plan, with its scenarios, as a JSON file.
- Download everything in my account saves every household and plan you can access, as one JSON file.
Plan files are plain JSON. You can keep them as a backup or import one later.
Import a plan file from this app
Choose Import a plan file in Settings and pick a JSON file you exported earlier. The app checks that it's a plan file from this app before it uses it.
Importing replaces your current plan. If you want to keep the current one, download it first. You can undo an import right after it.
Import from another planning tool
Choose Import a plan from another tool in Settings. The importer reads one JSON export file from another planning tool:
- Choose the export file. It's read on your device and never sent to us.
- Pick which plans to bring over. One becomes your main plan. Others can come along as scenarios.
- Review the summary. It groups everything into Brought over, Approximated and Not brought over, so you can see what needs a second look.
- Choose Replace my plan with this, or Cancel.
The file size limit is about 700 KB. Tools model some things differently, so check the approximated items and run Outlook before relying on the results.
Import holdings from a spreadsheet
On Accounts or Asset allocation, choose Import holdings from a spreadsheet. The importer accepts an Excel workbook (.xlsx) or a CSV file with one row per holding. It's read on your device, and nothing is uploaded.
The screen lists the columns it needs, such as the account name and type, ticker, security name, asset class and market value. Quantity and cost basis are optional. After reading the file, you choose where each account in the file goes in your plan. Holdings drive the allocation look-through and the rebalancing moves. See how the look-through works.
Import balances from a CSV file
The Balance imports page, under Account in the menu, reads an account-balances CSV export from a supported budgeting service. The file is read in your browser. You confirm which plan account each balance belongs to, then choose Use these balances.
Delete your data
Signed in, you can delete your account and all its data in Settings. You'll type a confirmation phrase first. Deleting removes your plans, scenarios, share links and connections. Download your data first if you might want it later.
