Plot My Money and Fidelity compared

How Plot My Money and Fidelity's free planning tools and calculators compare on features and price, from Fidelity's own pages checked November 5, 2026.

Last checked

Fidelity is a brokerage that offers free planning tools and a set of retirement calculators, plus paid managed accounts. Plot My Money is a planning app with no investment products. This page compares the planning tools and the published advice fees, based on the Fidelity pages we could read.

Who each one is for

Fidelity's Planning & Guidance Center is for people who want a free plan connected to their Fidelity accounts. Its overview page describes a view of assets and debts, spending tracking, saving suggestions and multiple goals. Fidelity's calculators page adds single-purpose tools for income, Social Security, Roth conversions, RMDs and early withdrawals.

Plot My Money is for US households planning for retirement or already retired. It shows what's safe to spend each month, tests the plan across thousands of simulated markets, and plans taxes, Social Security and withdrawals year by year. It runs in a browser on phones and computers, and has an Advisor plan for planners who work with clients.

Features side by side

Notes on the table:

  • Roth conversions (Partial). Fidelity's Roth IRA Conversion Calculator estimates "taxes you may owe on different conversion amounts today vs potential savings down the road". It's a separate calculator, not part of a year-by-year plan.
  • Social Security (Partial). Its Social Security Benefit Calculator estimates "monthly and lifetime benefits at different ages". It's also a separate calculator.
  • Projections. Fidelity says its Retirement Analysis projections "are hypothetical in nature". The pages we could read don't say how they're calculated.
  • Apps. Fidelity's mobile page says the Fidelity Investments app is "Available on Apple® and Android™ devices". It doesn't say which planning tools the app includes.
  • Plot My Money. Monte Carlo runs up to 1,000 simulated markets on the free plan and up to 10,000 on Plus. The phone experience is an installable web app, not a store app. Account linking isn't offered, so balances are entered by hand or imported from files.

Pricing as published

Plot My Money has a free plan and two paid plans. Plus covers your household, at a yearly price of the amount shown before you subscribe. The Advisor plan covers a set number of client households, at a yearly price of the amount shown before you subscribe. Until paid plans go on sale, every feature is included for every household. See plans and billing.

Fidelity (from the Planning & Guidance Center page and the Fidelity Go page, checked November 5, 2026):

  • Planning & Guidance Center: "there is no fee to generate a plan". Investment expenses and trading fees still apply to investments.
  • Fidelity Go, a managed account: "Fidelity Go® charges no advisory fees while your account balance is under $25,000". Above that, the page states a 0.35% advisory fee per year.
  • Fidelity Go has no minimum to open. One-on-one coaching starts once the balance reaches $25,000. The fine print says coaching "will not address retirement income planning" for clients near or in retirement.

Where Fidelity is stronger

  • Planning tied to your accounts. The Planning & Guidance Center works with your Fidelity brokerage, IRA and cash accounts after you log in.
  • Spending tracking. It categorizes transactions and highlights trends.
  • Many free single-purpose calculators, including RMD, 72(t) and small-business plan contributions, on its calculators page.
  • A store app for Apple and Android devices.
  • Managed accounts and coaching are available for a fee through Fidelity Go.

Who should pick which

  • Pick Fidelity's tools if most of your savings are at Fidelity and you want a free plan linked to those accounts.
  • Pick Fidelity's tools if you want quick answers from separate calculators, or a managed account from the same firm.
  • Pick Plot My Money if you want Roth conversions, Social Security, Medicare premiums and withdrawals worked out together, year by year.
  • Pick Plot My Money if you hold accounts at several firms and want one plan that isn't tied to any of them.

How to switch

Plot My Money doesn't import Fidelity files, so you set up your plan again. Have your latest balances, pay, spending and Social Security estimates to hand.

  1. Start a plan and answer the setup questions about your household, income, spending and accounts.
  2. If you have a holdings file, import it as Excel or CSV on the Accounts screen.
  3. Add Social Security from your SSA statement, plus pensions and any other income.
  4. Compare the results with your old plan. Differences usually come from assumptions about returns, inflation, taxes and spending.

You can download your plan as a JSON file at any time. See getting started and importing and exporting.
